The name of the community stemmed either from a drawing from a group of names submitted by local residents or was chosen directly by Kent's first postmaster, according to differing accounts of the matter. Milton H. Bennett was that postmaster, who ran the post office beginning in about 1887.[4] ClimateThis region experiences warm (but not hot) and dry summers, with no average monthly temperatures above {{convert|68.1|F|C}}. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Kent has a steppe climate, abbreviated "BSk" on climate maps. {{Weather box|location = Kent, Oregon |single line = Y | Jan record high F = 63 | Feb record high F = 69 | Mar record high F = 77 | Apr record high F = 89 | May record high F = 97 | Jun record high F = 103 | Jul record high F = 107 | Aug record high F = 108 | Sep record high F = 102 | Oct record high F = 92 | Nov record high F = 77 | Dec record high F = 65 | year record high F = 108 | Jan high F = 37.5 | Feb high F = 42.9 | Mar high F = 50.5 | Apr high F = 57.8 | May high F = 66.5 | Jun high F = 74.2 | Jul high F = 83.8 | Aug high F = 83 | Sep high F = 74.3 | Oct high F = 62.4 | Nov high F = 47.2 | Dec high F = 39.5 | year high F = 60 | Jan low F = 22.9 | Feb low F = 26.7 | Mar low F = 30.5 | Apr low F = 34.1 | May low F = 40 | Jun low F = 46.2 | Jul low F = 52.2 | Aug low F = 52 | Sep low F = 45.9 | Oct low F = 38 | Nov low F = 30 | Dec low F = 25.3 | year low F = 37 | Jan record low F = -17 | Feb record low F = -19 | Mar record low F = 5 | Apr record low F = 14 | May record low F = 21 | Jun record low F = 26 | Jul record low F = 32 | Aug record low F = 36 | Sep record low F = 21 | Oct record low F = 9 | Nov record low F = -10 | Dec record low F = -18 | year record low F = -19 | precipitation colour = green | Jan precipitation inch = 1.4 | Feb precipitation inch = 1.08 | Mar precipitation inch = 1 | Apr precipitation inch = 0.93 | May precipitation inch = 1.02 | Jun precipitation inch = 0.87 | Jul precipitation inch = 0.35 | Aug precipitation inch = 0.38 | Sep precipitation inch = 0.57 | Oct precipitation inch = 0.87 | Nov precipitation inch = 1.47 | Dec precipitation inch = 1.48 | year precipitation inch = 11.42 | Jan precipitation days = 10 | Feb precipitation days = 9 | Mar precipitation days = 9 | Apr precipitation days = 8 | May precipitation days = 7 | Jun precipitation days = 6 | Jul precipitation days = 2 | Aug precipitation days = 3 | Sep precipitation days = 4 | Oct precipitation days = 7 | Nov precipitation days = 10 | Dec precipitation days = 9 | Jan snow inch = 7 | Feb snow inch = 3.9 | Mar snow inch = 2.1 | Apr snow inch = 0.7 | May snow inch = 0 | Jun snow inch = 0 | Jul snow inch = 0 | Aug snow inch = 0 | Sep snow inch = 0.1 | Oct snow inch = 0.2 | Nov snow inch = 2.2 | Dec snow inch = 5.2 | year snow inch = 21.3 |source 1 = [5] |date=November 2015 }} See also
