As of the 2010 Census, its population was 764.[4] HistoryIt was founded in the late 1970s, during the construction of the Baikal–Amur Mainline,{{citation needed|date=July 2014}} and was granted urban-type settlement status in 1981.[3] Around two thirds of the residents left after the completion of the railway in the late 1980s, with the population dropping drastically between 1989 and present.
