It lies approximately {{convert|5|km|mi|0}} north-west of Chełmiec, {{convert|7|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} north-west of Nowy Sącz, and {{convert|67|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} south-east of the regional capital Kraków.[1] The village has a population of 1,048.{{citation needed|date=January 2011}} EconomyIn 1858, oil production was established and, in 1859, an oil refinery operated here until World War I. By 1867, an oil well was drilled with steam to 200 meters. On December 16, 1884, the Galician Transversal Railway began train services at Klęczany.
