It was used in the writing of the Komi language in the 1920s, as well as in the Cyrillization of Arabic to represent the sound [{{IPA|sˤ}}]{{cn|date=July 2018}}. The pronunciation of the letter in Komi is {{IPA|[dzʲ]~[dʒʲ]}}, like the pronunciation of {{angbr|ds}} in "pods" or of {{angbr|dg}} in "budget", palatalized.
