It was the eleventh satellite to be designated under the Kosmos system, and the fourth spacecraft launched as part of the DS programme to successfully reach orbit, after Kosmos 1, Kosmos 6 and Kosmos 8. Its primary mission was to demonstrate technologies for future Soviet military satellites.[1] LaunchIt was launched aboard the ninth flight of the Kosmos-2I 63S1 rocket.[2] The launch was conducted from pad 2 of the Mayak Launch Complex at Kapustin Yar on 20 October 1962 at 04:00 UTC.[3] MissionKosmos 11 was placed into a low Earth orbit with a perigee of {{convert|240|km|mi|abbr=on}}, an apogee of {{convert|858|km|mi|abbr=on}}, 48.9 degrees of inclination, and an orbital period of 95.6 minutes.[1] It decayed on 18 May 1964.[4] Kosmos 11 was the first of seven DS-A1 satellites to be launched.[1] The next DS-A1 launched was Kosmos 17, in May 1963.[5] {{-}}References{{Portal|Spaceflight}}1. ^1 2 {{cite web |url=http://www.astronautix.com/craft/dsa1.htm |title=DS-A1 |last=Wade |first=Mark |publisher=Encyclopedia Astronautica |accessdate=25 May 2009 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://www.webcitation.org/6919eelc0?url=http://www.astronautix.com/craft/dsa1.htm |archivedate=9 July 2012 |df=dmy-all }} {{Dnepropetrovsk Sputnik}}{{Orbital launches in 1962}}{{Use British English|date=January 2014}}{{Use dmy dates|date=January 2014}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Kosmos 0011}}{{USSR-spacecraft-stub}}2. ^{{cite web |url=http://planet4589.org/space/log/launchlog.txt |title=Launch Log |last=McDowell |first=Jonathan |publisher=Jonathan's Space Page |accessdate=25 May 2009}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.astronautix.com/lvs/kosmos2.htm |title=Kosmos 2 |last=Wade |first=Mark |publisher=Encyclopedia Astronautica |accessdate=25 May 2009 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://www.webcitation.org/690mZkz9v?url=http://www.astronautix.com/lvs/kosmos2.htm |archivedate=8 July 2012 |df=dmy-all }} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.planet4589.org/space/log/satcat.txt |title=Satellite Catalog |last=McDowell |first=Jonathan |publisher=Jonathan's Space Page |accessdate=25 May 2009}} 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.astronautix.com/project/ds.htm |title=DS |last=Wade |first=Mark |publisher=Encyclopedia Astronautica |accessdate=25 May 2009 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20090331210314/http://www.astronautix.com/project/ds.htm |archivedate=31 March 2009 |df=dmy-all }} 4 : Spacecraft launched in 1962|Kosmos satellites|1962 in the Soviet Union|Spacecraft which reentered in 1964 |
