Kyauktaw ({{lang-my|ေက်ာက္ေတာ္ၿမိဳ႕}} {{IPA-my|tɕaʊʔtɔ̀ mjo̰|}}) is a town in the north Rakhine State of westernmost part of Myanmar. The famous Mahamuni Buddha ရခိုင္မဟာမုနိဘုရား Image was situated near Kyauktaw, in the ruins of the old city of Dhanyawadi.

Kyauktaw has many sugar mills and sugar-cane plantations.

The Kispanadi Bridge is located at the entrance to Kyauktaw, traversing the Kaladan River ကုလားတန္ျမစ္ ယခင္ကုလားတန္႔ျမစ္.

Location

Kyauktaw is situated at {{convert|65|mi|km}} far from the north of Sittwe, the capital city of Rakhine State. It is located approximately between latitudes 20° 37' north and 21° 11' north and longitudes 92° 50' east and 93° 88' east from the north of Kaladan (Kispanadi, a Pali word (Nadi=river)) river.

Area

The areas of Kyauktaw township is nearly {{convert|675.55|sqmi|km2}}. Kyauktaw is bordered by Mrauk U, nearly {{convert|27|mi|km}} far from the east, Buthidaung, nearly {{convert|30|mi|km}} far from the west, Ponnagyun, {{convert|45|mi|km}} far from the South and Pallawa Township of Chin State, nearly {{convert|40|mi|km}} far from the north. It is {{convert|19|mi|km}} long from the east to the west and {{convert|35|mi|km}} from the south to the north.

Climate

Kyauktaw has three seasons; the monsoon or rainy season is from May to October; the cool season or winter from November to February and the hot season or summer from March to May. The average temperature range during the summer is from 32 to 40 °C. The average rainfall range during the rainy season is from 431 to 482 centimeters.

There was a flood in July 2011.[1]
