Prater attended Proviso West High School in Hillside, Illinois where he was a member of the football and basketball teams. Prater was a five-star football recruit and ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2010 recruiting class by Rivals.com. Prater committed to play for the University of Southern California in September 2009. After two seasons at USC, he transferred to Northwestern University. After going undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft, he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints. High school careerPrater graduated early from Proviso West High School. Rivals.com rated Prater as the #3 overall prospect in the class of 2010[1] and Scout.com rated him as the #4 overall prospect.[2] In his junior season he had 60 catches for 948 yards and 9 touchdowns and in his senior year he had 64 receptions for 1151 yards and 13 touchdowns, virtually single-handedly leading the Proviso West Panthers to their first ever post-season appearance and first ever IHSA playoff win.[3] He played in the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas for his final high school game where he had 3 receptions for 32 yards.[4] College careerIn September 2009, Prater committed to USC. He graduated early from high school and intended to be an early enrollee at USC for the spring term,[5] but decided to wait on enrolling after he found out that Pete Carroll was going to become the Seattle Seahawks new head coach. Prater decided to go through with his plans to enroll early at USC when Lane Kiffin was named USC's new head coach.[6] He red shirted his freshman year due to injury.[7] On January 9, 2012 Prater announced that he planned to transfer from USC to an undetermined school. He stated that he wanted to be closer to home and his release specified that he could not transfer to any other Pac-12 schools or Notre Dame, thus making a school in the Big Ten his likely destination. Prater has since decided that he will be transferring to Northwestern.[8] Professional careerNew Orleans SaintsPrater was signed by the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in the 2015 offseason.[9] On August 17, 2015, he was released by the Saints. On August 18, 2016, he was reclaimed and placed on injured reserve by the Saints.[10] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?SID=880&Year=2010&ra_key=2303 |title=Rivals Class of 2010 football rankings |publisher=Rivals100.rivals.com |date= |accessdate=January 10, 2012}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=9&c=4&pid=88&yr=2010 |title=Scout.com Class of 2010 football rankings |publisher=Recruiting.scout.com |date= |accessdate=January 10, 2012}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=4114790 |title=Season Stats from Scout.com |publisher=Recruiting.scout.com |date= |accessdate=January 10, 2012}} 4. ^Army Bowl Stats {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100113104257/http://yourseason.suntimes.com/football/1982641%2C010910-football-prater-commitment.article |date=January 13, 2010 }} 5. ^Prater info on USC {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100113104257/http://yourseason.suntimes.com/football/1982641%2C010910-football-prater-commitment.article |date=January 13, 2010 }} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/andy_staples/01/13/kiffin.usc.tennessee/index.html?eref=sihp |title=Kiffin's departure already affecting USC and Vols recruiting classes |publisher=Sportsillustrated.cnn.com |date=January 13, 2010 |accessdate=January 10, 2012}} 7. ^{{cite web |url=http://myespn.go.com/s/conversations/show/story/5514320?eref=sihp |title=Conversations: Touted WR Kyle Prater likely to redshirt |publisher=Myespn.go.com |date=August 30, 2010 |accessdate=January 10, 2012 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://archive.is/20120719134841/http://myespn.go.com/s/conversations/show/story/5514320?eref=sihp |archivedate=July 19, 2012 |df= }} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://espn.go.com/chicago/ncf/story/_/id/7448330/three-big-ten-schools-usc-trojans-transfer-kyle-prater-list |title=Kyle Prater considers Big Ten schools}} 9. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2015/05/saints_waive_doniel_gambrell_a.html |title=New Orleans Saints waive Doniel Gambrell, Andrew Miller, Malcome Kennedy |last=Terrell |first=Katherine |date=May 18, 2015 |website=NOLA.com |accessdate=October 1, 2015}} 10. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2015/08/new_orleans_saints_waive_kyle.html |title=New Orleans Saints waive Kyle Prater, Lawrence Virgil, sign 2 players |last=Woodbery |first=Evan |date=August 17, 2015 |website=NOLA.com |accessdate=October 1, 2015}} External links{{commons category}}
