In 2001 and 2002 he was the chairman of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) in Sri-Lanka, and he has contributed to a large number of consulting and training programs for local and foreign companies.[4][5][6] Early life and educationAbeywickrama is a graduate of University of Colombo, in Sri Lanka, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree. He acquired an MBA from the Kogod School of Business, The American University, Washington DC, where he served as a graduate fellow of the Marketing Department. He is also a chartered marketer of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). CareerAbeywickrama has contributed to many marketing related roles in some leading Sri Lankan organizations. He was the managing director of Procter & Gamble/Hemas Distribution Operations, marketing director of Hemas Marketing, brand manager responsible for the Kraft brand in Sri Lanka, and senior brand manager for Sara Lee Household & Body Care in Melbourne, Australia, where he won the Prestigious Marketer of the Year Award in recognition of his performance.
