Geographically in the Chumphon Archipelago, it is part of Surat Thani Province, though as of 2012, Ko Samui was granted municipal status and thus is now locally self-governing. Ko Samui is Thailand's second-largest island after Phuket, with an area of 228.7 km2, a population of over 63,000 and a hotel occupancy rate of 73 percent as the number of visitors continues to increase.[{{cite news|title=Samui hotels cash in on tourism boom|url=http://www.bangkokpost.com/business/news/403157/samui-hotels-cash-in-on-tourism-boom|accessdate=12 Feb 2015|work=Bangkok Post|date=2014-04-03}}] 2. ^{{cite book|title=Thailand's Islands and Beaches|author1=Joe Bindloss |author2=Steven Martin |author3=Wendy Taylor |page=199|publisher=Lonely Planet|isbn=1-74059-500-9}} 3. ^{{cite web |title=ชื่อนามที่มาของเกาะ สมุย |url=http://www.komchadluek.net/news/local/25143 |website=komchadluek.net |accessdate=2018-12-30 |date=2009-08-21}} 4. ^{{cite news|last1=Levy|first1=Adrian|last2=Scott-Clark|first2=Cathy|title=Danger in paradise| url=https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2006/apr/08/travelnews.weekendmagazine|accessdate=12 Feb 2015|work=The Guardian|date=2006-04-08}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.travelfish.org/weather_fish.php |title=Weather in Thailand |publisher=Travelfish.org |date= |accessdate=2013-11-15}} 6. ^{{cite web| url = http://climate.tmd.go.th/content/file/75| title = Climatological Data for the Period 1981–2010| publisher = Thai Meteorological Department| page = 23| accessdate = 7 August 2016}} 7. ^{{cite web| url = http://water.rid.go.th/hwm/cropwater/CWRdata/ETo/ETo_PenMon_2554.pdf| title = ปริมาณการใช้น้ำของพืชอ้างอิงโดยวิธีของ Penman Monteith (Reference Crop Evapotranspiration by Penman Monteith)| publisher = Office of Water Management and Hydrology, Royal Irrigation Department | page = 108| language = Thai| accessdate = 7 August 2016}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://stat.dopa.go.th/stat/statnew/statTDD/views/showZoneData.php?rcode=8493&statType=1&year=60|publisher=Department of Provincial Administration|title=Population statistics 2017|language=Thai|accessdate=2018-04-04}} 9. ^{{cite web|title=Koh Samui Airport, Thailand|url=http://www.airport-technology.com/projects/koh-samui/|work=airport-technology.com|publisher=Kable|accessdate=18 Jan 2014|year=2013}}{{Unreliable source?|reason=domain on WP:BLACKLIST|date=June 2016}} 12. ^{{cite web| url=http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/289233/samui-may-get-second-airport |title=Samui may get second airport|work=Bangkok Post |date=2012-04-18 |accessdate=2013-11-15}} 13. ^http://centreforaviation.com/analysis/bangkok-airways-part-2-plans-for-further-network-fleet--partnership-portfolio-expansion-for-2016-256648 14. ^{{cite news |last1=Sritama |first1=Suchat |title=Cape Fahn to open on private island |url=https://www.bangkokpost.com/business/news/1498198/cape-fahn-to-open-on-private-island |accessdate=6 July 2018 |work=Bangkok Post |date=6 July 2018}} 15. ^{{cite news|last1=Chaolan|first1=Supapong|last2=Wipatayotin|first2=Apinya|title=Islands seek clean break from trail of tourist trash|url=https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/special-reports/1442782/islands-seek-clean-break-from-trail-of-tourist-trash|accessdate=9 April 2018|work=Bangkok Post|date=8 April 2018}} 16. ^{{cite web|title=Buffalo Fight Festival|url=http://www.bangkokpost.com/travel/21296_info_buffalo-fight-festival.html|archive-url=https://archive.is/20150129171816/http://www.bangkokpost.com/travel/21296_info_buffalo-fight-festival.html|dead-url=yes|archive-date=29 January 2015|website=Bangkok Post Travel|publisher=Bangkok Post|accessdate=12 Feb 2015}} 17. ^{{cite web|title=Samui Regatta|url=http://www.samuiregatta.com/home|website=Samui Regatta|accessdate=12 Feb 2015}} 18. ^{{cite web|title=Samui Art Party| url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/33734671@N03/sets/72157613789241252/|website=Samui Art Party|accessdate=8 Mar 2007}} 19. ^{{cite web|title=Koh Samui Midnight Run|url=http://www.samuimidnightrun.com/|website=Koh Samui Midnight Run|accessdate=22 Feb 2016}} 20. ^{{Cite web|url=http://littledumdumclub.com/kohsamui/|title=Little Dum Dum Club Koh Samui Podcast Festival|website=littledumdumclub.com|access-date=2018-06-26}} 21. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/how-far-would-you-go-to-attend-a-comedy-podcast-20180604-h10xpl.html|title=How far would you go to attend a comedy podcast?|last=Wells|first=Peter|date=2018-06-06|website=The Sydney Morning Herald|language=en|access-date=2018-06-26}} 22. ^Samui International Hospital.
