It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Lelkowo.[1] It lies approximately {{convert|27|km|mi|0}} east of Braniewo and {{convert|64|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} north of the regional capital Olsztyn. Before 1945 the area was part of Germany (East Prussia). The village has a population of 1,080.
