Sugar Lake) in Buchanan County, Missouri. The state park features camping, picnicking, and fishing. HistoryThe tract was acquired in 1934 as the gift of a group of Buchanan County sportsmen and was originally named Sugar Lake State Park. The name was changed in 1938 to honor Lewis and Clark, who are believed to have discovered the lake, naming it Gosling Lake, on their expedition in 1804-1806. The Sugar Lake State Park Open Shelter was built in 1934 by a Civilian Conservation Corps company who encamped briefly at the park. It is a stone picnic shelter on a poured concrete foundation.[7] The shelter was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.[8] References1. ^1 {{cite gnis|720934|Lewis and Clark State Park}} [2][3][4][5]2. ^1 {{cite web |url=https://mostateparks.com/sites/mostateparks/files/lewisandclark_datasheet_01_2018.pdf |title=Lewis and Clark State Park: Data Sheet |publisher=Missouri Department of Natural Resources |date=November 2017 |accessdate=May 2, 2018}} 3. ^1 {{cite web |url=https://mostateparks.com/page/59045/state-park-land-acquisition-summary |title=State Park Land Acquisition Summary |publisher=Missouri State Parks |accessdate=May 2, 2018}} 4. ^1 {{cite web| url =http://www.dnr.mo.gov/shpo/nps-nr/85000522.pdf| title = National Register of Historic Places Inventory Nomination Form: Sugar Lake State Park Open Shelter| accessdate = 2016-09-01| author=Bonnie Wright|format = PDF| date=n.d.|publisher=Missouri Department of Natural Resources}} 5. ^1 {{cite web |url=https://npgallery.nps.gov/AssetDetail/NRIS/85000522 |title=Sugar Lake State Park Open Shelter |work=NPGallery |publisher=National Park Service |accessdate=May 2, 2018}} }} External links
