释义 |
The Licensed Victuallers' School (LVS Ascot) is an independent all-ability school for pupils aged 4 to 18, situated near Ascot in the English county of Berkshire. It is operated by the Licensed Trade Charity, and parents who work in the licensed drinks trade receive a 20% discount on fees.[1] HistoryFounded in 1803 by the Society of Licensed Victuallers (now operating as the Licensed Trade Charity), the school was originally situated in Kennington, London. As industrialization advanced the school lost its "wholesome and airy environment", and so in 1922 left the city for a site in Slough. The same concern caused the school to move to its current home in Ascot in 1989.[2] Today{{seealso|Category:People educated at Licensed Victuallers' School}}LVS Ascot is set in {{convert|25|acre|m2}} of land within Ascot,[3] on the site formerly occupied by Heatherdown Preparatory School. The Queen is the school's patron. The school's 900 pupils,[4] of which some 200 are boarders,[5] are split into four houses: Boarders, Bell's, Courage, and Whitbread.[6] Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a 300-seat theatre, a recording studio, a sports centre, a gym, and a rock-climbing wall.[7] A new all-weather sports pitch was opened by Olympic hockey medallist Sarah Thomas in 2014.[8] References1. ^{{cite web|title=LVS Ascot|publisher=The Licensed Trade Charity|url=http://governance.licensedtradecharity.org.uk/how-we-make-a-difference/independent-school-lvs-ascot/}} 2. ^{{cite web|title=Heritage|publisher=LVS Ascot|url=http://lvs.ascot.sch.uk/Heritage}} 3. ^{{cite web|publisher=LVS Ascot|url=http://lvs.ascot.sch.uk/Outdoor-Learning-Day-Teaches-Juniors-New-Skills|title=Outdoor Learning Day Teaches Juniors New Skills}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=About Us & Aims|publisher=LVS Ascot|url=http://lvs.ascot.sch.uk/About-Us-and-Aims}} 5. ^{{cite web|title=Boarding Introduction|publisher=LVS Ascot|url=http://lvs.ascot.sch.uk/Boarding-Introduction}} 6. ^{{cite web|title=Pastoral Care|publisher=LVS Ascot|url=http://lvs.ascot.sch.uk/Pastoral-Care}} 7. ^{{cite web|title=Facilities|publisher=LVS Ascot|url=http://lvs.ascot.sch.uk/Facilities}} 8. ^{{cite web|title=Olympic hockey star Sarah Thomas opens new LVS pitch|publisher=Bracknell News|url=http://bracknellnews.co.uk/sport/13461275.Olympic_hockey_star_Sarah_Thomas_opens_new_LVS_pitch}} External links
