St. John's is the largest city and metropolis in Newfoundland and Labrador with a population of 192,326.[1] In St. John's, there are seven buildings that stand taller than {{convert|50|m|ft|abbr=on|0|}}. The tallest building in the city is the 11-storey, {{convert|64|m|ft|abbr=on|adj=on|0}} Confederation Building.[2] The majority of the high-rises in the city are in the downtown area, however Confederation building is located outside of the downtown. The tallest building downtown is the {{convert|63|m|ft|abbr=on|adj=on|0}} John Cabot Place, with 13 floors.[3]

Due to strict height regulations in the downtown area, the city has seen very few high-rises built in comparison to other cities of similar size.[4] In 2010 the city amended height regulation for a small area of Water Street to allow for higher density buildings. The latest development in this area was 351 Water Street; at {{convert|47.4|m|ft|abbr=on|0}} and 11 floors.

Projects

Due to strict height regulations in the downtown area, St. John's has seen very few high-rises built in comparison to other cities of similar size.[20] In 2010 the city amended height regulation for a small area of Water Street to allow for higher density buildings. The first development in this area will be 351 Water Street; at {{convert|47.4|m|ft|abbr=on|0}} and 11 floors it is the tallest building set for construction in the St. John's Metropolitan Area.[21][22]
