The loch is situated to the north of Macaterick (499 m), to the west of Craigfionn (366 m) and to the southeast of Loch Riecawr. A boardwalk through a forested area used to lead to the loch from a nearby track but it was removed during forestry works.[1] The loch area has suffered limited heather beetle impacts.[2] References1. ^https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/601995 Geograph image of track {{EastAyrshire-geo-stub}}2. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.snh.org.uk/pdfs/publications/commissioned_reports/ReportNo196.pdf |title=Habitat condition assessment of Merrick Kells (Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation) and Cairnsmore of Fleet (Site of Special Scientific Interest and National Nature Reserve) |accessdate=2009-03-16 |work=Scottish Natural Heritage Commissioned Report No. 196 |publisher=Scottish Natural Heritage |year=2006 |author=Hewison, R.L., Henderson, D.J., Malcolm, A., Nolan, A.J. and Alexander, J.}} 1 : Lochs of East Ayrshire |
