It is located in the southwest of the krai. The area of the district is {{convert|2340|km2|sp=us}}.[1] Its administrative center is the town of Gornyak.[2] Population: {{ru-census|p2010=29,658|p2002=33,984|p1989=34,562}} The population of Gornyak accounts for 46.9% of the district's total population.
