In addition, LIOEHC reviews existing occupational health programs, and assists with design, implementation and evaluation of OSHA, EPA, PESH and state-mandated medical monitoring programs. The LIOEHC was a NIOSH selected site for evaluation of World Trade Center related health problems and was established through a New York Department of Health grant awarded to SUNY Stony Brook Research Foundation on behalf of Stony Brook University Medical Center (SBUMC) faculty, through the Department of Preventive Medicine. LIOEHC is affiliated with Stony Brook Medical Center and publicly funded. LIOEHC collaborates with other groups to conduct studies on the relationship between the workplace, the environment and health problems and, as of August 2010, projects with NYCOSH focus on indoor air quality and safe patient handling.
