She is the lead ship of a class of eight Post-Panamax ships with a capacity of 8100 TEU, built between May 2005 and May 2006 by Samsung Heavy Industries,[4] the vessel was built to replace the 5,600-TEU U-type vessels then deployed.[5] LT Cortesia, like all ships in the class, are on a long-term charter to the Evergreen Line fleet from Conti-NSB/Germany.[3]HistoryOn 2 January 2008 at 0500 GMT the container ship LT Cortesia ran aground in the Dover Strait. The ship was en route to the Suez Canal when it ran aground on Varne Bank, nine miles south west of Dover.[6][7] Later in the day, when the tide rose, she was refloated and towed to The Downs for inspection.[2][8] After an inspection on 3 January she was declared seaworthy and resumed her journey.[9] References1. ^Lloyd Tristino LT Cortesia from freightervoyages.eu 2. ^1 {{cite news|title=Boxship refloats|url=http://www.mgn.com/news/dailystorydetails.cfm?storyid=8411|publisher=Maritime Global Net|date=3 January 2008|accessdate=2008-01-03|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110714082325/http://www.mgn.com/news/dailystorydetails.cfm?storyid=8411|archivedate=14 July 2011|df=dmy-all}} 3. ^1 {{cite web|title=Sailing schedules|publisher=Evergreen International|url=http://www.shipmentlink.com/tvs2/jsp/TVS2_VesselSchedule.jsp|accessdate=2007-01-02}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.frachtschiffreisen.ch/Schiffe/01/8100_TEU.pdf|publisher=Frachtschiff Reisen (Globotrek and Background Tours AG)|title=Ever Champion/Ever Charming/Ever Chivalry/Ever Conquest/Hatsu Courage/Hatsu Crystal/ Ital Contessa/LT Cortesia|language=German |accessdate=2007-01-02}} 5. ^{{cite web| title=Largest Ever Vessel at Thamesport| url= http://www.londonthamesport.co.uk/pressreleases/frmPress.aspx?pid=146| work=press release| publisher=London Thamesport| date=14 June 2005| accessdate=2009-09-27| quote= The 334-metre-long 'LT Cortesia' is one of eight ‘C’ type vessels being introduced on this service in the coming months to replace the 5,600-TEU ‘U’ type vessels currently deployed.}} 6. ^{{cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/7167666.stm|title=Ship runs aground in Dover Strait| work=BBC News|date=2 January 2008}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.mcga.gov.uk/c4mca/mcga-press-releases?id=39DA3DEED38895BE|publisher=Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK)|title=Container Vessel Aground in Dover Strait|date=2 January 2008|accessdate=2007-01-02}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.mcga.gov.uk/c4mca/mcga-newsroom/mcga-press-releases.htm?id=DE091D4F39281FF3|publisher=Maritime and Coastguard Agency|title=Container Vessel Refloated in Dover Strait|date=2 January 2008|accessdate=2007-01-02}}{{dead link|date=December 2017 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} 9. ^{{cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/7170651.stm|title=Stranded ship declared seaworthy|publisher=BBC|date=3 January 2008|accessdate=2008-01-04}} External links
