}}Lutjanus sebae, the emperor red snapper, is a species of snapper native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean. This species is an inhabitant of both rocky and coral reefs, preferring flat areas with either a sandy or gravel substrate. They can be found at depths from {{convert|5|to|180|m|ft|abbr=on}}. This species can reach a length of {{convert|116|cm|in}}, though most do not exceed {{convert|60|cm|in|abbr=on}}. The greatest recorded weight for this species is {{convert|32.7|kg|lb|abbr=on}}. This species is commercially important and is also farmed. It is sought as a game fish and is found in the aquarium trade.[1] It also known as the government bream in Australasia. Juveniles often shelter amongst sea urchin spines until large enough to venture out to feed.[2] In Singapore, it is used for the iconic dish, fishhead curry.
