MacKenzie S. Tuttle Bezos (born April 7, 1970)[1] is an American novelist and billionaire. She is the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, to whom she was married from 1993 until their divorce in 2019.[1] In 2014, she founded the anti-bullying organization Bystander Revolution, where she serves as executive director.

In 1993, MacKenzie Tuttle married Jeff Bezos, who later became the founder and CEO of Amazon, making them the richest couple in the world. They announced their intent to divorce in January 2019.[6] In April 2019, she announced on Twitter that she had reached a $35 billion divorce settlement, making her the third richest woman in the world.

Early life

MacKenzie S. Tuttle was born on April 7, 1970, in San Francisco, California, to a financial planner father and a homemaker mother.[2] In 1988, she graduated from Hotchkiss School in Connecticut.[3]

Tuttle earned her bachelor's degree in English at Princeton University with highest honors in 1992.[2] She studied under writer Toni Morrison, who said Bezos was "one of the best students I've ever had in my creative writing classes."[2]

Personal life

In 1992, Bezos worked for Jeff Bezos at D. E. Shaw, a New York City hedge fund.[4] They married in 1993,[5] and moved to Seattle in 1994. They have four children: three sons, and one daughter adopted from China.[6]

In 2014, Bezos founded Bystander Revolution, an anti-bullying organization, where she serves as executive director.[7]

On January 9, 2019, MacKenzie and Jeff Bezos announced via Twitter that they would divorce.[8] On April 4, 2019, the divorce was finalized, with Jeff Bezos keeping 75% of Amazon stock and MacKenzie getting $35.6 billion in Amazon stock.[9] She is now the third-richest woman in the world, as well as one of the wealthiest people in the world.[10]
