It is located in the north of the republic. The area of the district is {{convert|670|km2|sp=us}}.[6] Its administrative center is the town of Malgobek[7] (which is not administratively a part of the district).[1] As of the 2010 Census, the total population of the district was 47,754.[8] Administrative and municipal statusWithin the framework of administrative divisions, Malgobeksky District is one of the four in the Republic of Ingushetia[1] and has administrative jurisdiction over all of its twelve rural localities.[7] The town of Malgobek serves as its administrative center,[7] despite being incorporated separately[1] as a town of republic significance—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[7] As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Malgobeksky Municipal District.[5] Its twelve rural localities are incorporated into twelve rural settlements within the municipal district.[5] The town of republic significance of Malgobek is incorporated separately from the district as Malgobek Urban Okrug, but serves as the administrative center of the municipal district as well.[5] Border issuesMalgobeksky and Sunzhensky Districts are a point at issue in the Chechen-Ingush border delimitation discussion.[9] ReferencesNotes1. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 7 {{ru-pop-ref|2010Census}} 2. ^{{ru-pop-ref|2002Census}} 3. ^{{ru-pop-ref|1989Census}} 4. ^{{ru-pop-ref|1979Census}} 5. ^1 2 3 4 5 Law #5-RZ 6. ^1 {{cite web|title=General Information|url=http://malgobek-rn.com/index.php/malgobrai/istoriya.html|publisher=Malgobeksky District|language=russian|access-date=August 31, 2016}} 7. ^1 2 3 4 {{cite web|title=About the Region|url=http://malgobek-rn.com/index.php/malgobrai/obshie.html|website=Malgobeksky District (Official Site)|publisher=Malgobeksky District|accessdate=22 October 2016}} 8. ^{{ru-pop-ref|2010Census}} 9. ^Chechnya, Ingushetia at Odds over Border Delimitation.
