Manila Xiamen International School ({{zh|s=厦门岷厦国际学校|t=廈門岷廈國際學校|p=xià mén mín shà guó jì xué xiào}}) or MXIS, is a Chinese educational institution.[1] It has students from thirteen different countries.

As of 2002 it is one of 24 overseas Filipino schools.[2]

History

{{unreferenced|section|date=December 2018}}

Manila Xiamen International School (MXIS) is the first international school in Xiamen, China. It was conceptualized by the Manila Xiamen Educational Foundation as a nonprofit, non-stock, fully foreign-owned and independent school.

MXIS started its operation with a permit from the Ministry of Education of China and from the Philippine Department of Education. It is a co-educational day and boarding school with curricular offerings at pre-school, lower school, middle school, and upper school levels. English is the medium of instruction. Non-English-speaking students are supported with special English as a Second Language program, while Mandarin is taught at every grade and level by Chinese teachers.

The school's student population is from many countries.

The school calendar opens during the second week of August and ends second week of June, however, enrollment is accepted anytime during the school year.

Curriculum

{{unreferenced|section|date=December 2018}}

MXIS's curriculum combines features from the Eastern and the Western models. It uses two international languages: English as medium of instruction and Mandarin as a second language. The school employs foreign as well as local teachers. The school limits the number of students to 15 per class.

The House System

Students participate in the House System where the school population is divided into two teams called the Tiger House and the Dragon House. The two teams compete in sports, quiz bees, and talent shows.

Summer programs

MXIS provides Summer Programs where participants are given better understanding and appreciation of China, its history, people, culture and geography. A yearly 45-day summer program from early April and mid-May is sponsored for overseas students. There are two optional types of the Summer Program:

  1. For those who would want to stay in Xiamen during the duration of the program;
  2. For those who would want to go for a 5-day trip to Beijing a week before the program ends.

Relations

A Philippine branch is mentioned on the school's official, St. Gabriel International School ({{zh|s=圣加百利国际学校|t=聖加百利國際學校|p=shèng jiā bǎi lì guó jì xué xiào}}), a school also owned by Mildred A. Go located in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines. St. Gabriel International School uses a patterned curriculum and participates in the Summer Program of Manila Xiamen International School.
