The dome soars {{convert|800|ft|m|-1}} above Tuolumne Meadows and the Tuolumne River and can be hiked starting at the Tioga Road in the heart of Tuolumne Meadows, {{convert|8|mi|0}} west of the Tioga Pass Entrance to Yosemite National Park. The landform is an example of a rôche moutonnée[3] with clear lee and stoss slopes. Lembert Dome was named for Jean Baptiste Lembert, sometimes mistakenly referred to as John Lambert, who took up a homestead in a section of Tuolumne Meadows in 1865.[2][4][5] By 1879 the Wheeler Survey referred to it as Soda Springs Dome. John Muir called it Glacier Rock.[6] Lembert Dome is near Puppy Dome,[7] is also close to Dog Dome.[8] Rock climbers can scale the face from the parking lot just off the Tioga Road, but hikers can simply walk up the back side or take the challenging steeper trek up the face starting from just east of the parking lot. Many technical free climbing routes have been put up.[9]References1. ^1 {{cite peakbagger |pid=2604 |name=Lembert Dome, California |accessdate=2008-11-24}} 2. ^1 {{cite gnis |id=254907 |name=Lembert Dome |accessdate=2008-11-24}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Lembert Dome|url=http://epod.usra.edu/blog/2012/07/lembert-dome-yosemite-national-park.html|website=Earth science picture of the day|accessdate=27 July 2017}} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.yosemite.ca.us/library/yosemite_nature_notes/28/28-9.pdf |title=Yosemite Nature Notes, September 1949 |last=Colby |first=William E. | accessdate=2013-09-24 }} 5. ^{{cite Farquhar |index=L |page=55 |accessdate=2008-11-24 }} 6. ^{{cite book |last=Browning |first=Peter |title=Place Names of the Sierra Nevada |publisher=Wilderness Press |year=1986 |location=Berkeley |page=126 |isbn=0899971199 }} 7. ^{{cite web | url=https://mapcarta.com/23116068 | title=Puppy Dome | publisher=mapcarta.com | work=Puppy Dome | accessdate=3 February 2019}} 8. ^{{cite web | url=https://www.mountainproject.com/area/107686072/dog-dome | title=mountainproject.com | publisher=Dog Dome Rock Climbing | date=July 3, 2012 | accessdate=27 February 2019 | author=Shore, Richard}} 9. ^1 {{cite Roper |pages=181–184}} External links
