Clarke was a graduate of the University of Chicago and played quarterback for the Chicago Maroons from 1896 to 1898 teams under Amos Alonzo Stagg. He also lettered in baseball at Chicago.[3][4] Head coaching recordFootball{{CFB Yearly Record Start | type = coach | team = | conf = | bowl = | poll = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead| name = Texas Longhorns | conf = Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association | startyear = 1899 | endyear = single }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1899 | name = Texas | overall = 6–2 | conference = 3–2 | confstanding = 7th | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Texas | overall = 6–2 | confrecord = 3–2 }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Western Reserve | conf = Independent | startyear = 1900 | endyear = single }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1900 | name = Western Reserve | overall = 4–3–2 | conference = | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Western Reserve | overall = 4–3–2 | confrecord = }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Washington University Bears | conf = Independent | startyear = 1901 | endyear = single }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1901 | name = Washington University | overall = 5–1 | conference = | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Washington University | overall = 5–1 | confrecord = }}{{CFB Yearly Record End | overall = 15–6–2 | bowls = no | poll = no | polltype = | legend = no }} References1. ^[https://books.google.com/books?id=w2YiAAAAMAAJ&q=%22CLARKE,+MAURICE+GORDON,+Ph.B.(+University+of+******%22&dq=%22CLARKE,+MAURICE+GORDON,+Ph.B.(+University+of+******%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=nYDaU93kOMP5oASPh4GwDw&ved=0CCAQ6AEwAQ] {{Navboxes2. ^{{cite news |author= |title=All Along The Line—Just a Word About the Day's Prospects—Games in East and West—Chicago Has a Hard Proposition in Purdue–Wisconsin Expectations |url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/13696605/the_minneapolis_journal/ |newspaper=The Minneapolis Journal |location=Minneapolis, Minnesota |date=October 12, 1901 |page=8 |access-date=September 11, 2017 |via=Newspapers.com {{Open access}} }} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.texassports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/fb-head-coaches.html |title=Head Coaches |author= |date= |work=MackBrown-TexasFootball.com |publisher=CBS Interactive |accessdate=September 22, 2012 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20121119064141/http://www.texassports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/fb-head-coaches.html |archivedate=November 19, 2012 |df= }} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.case.edu/its/archives/Seasons/wfoot1900.htm |title=WRU Football 1900/01 Season Record |author= |date= |work=University Archives |publisher=Case Western Reserve University |accessdate=September 22, 2012}} |list ={{Chicago Maroons quarterback navbox}}{{Texas Longhorns football coach navbox}}{{Texas Longhorns baseball coach navbox}}{{Case Western Spartans football coach navbox}}{{Washington University Bears football coach navbox}} }}{{DEFAULTSORT:Clarke, Maurice Gordon}}{{1890s-collegefootball-coach-stub}} 14 : 1877 births|Year of death missing|19th-century players of American football|American football halfbacks|American football quarterbacks|Case Western Spartans football coaches|Chicago Maroons baseball players|Chicago Maroons football players|Texas Longhorns baseball coaches|Texas Longhorns football coaches|Washington University Bears football coaches|People from Bellevue, Nebraska|Sportspeople from Omaha, Nebraska|Players of American football from Nebraska |
