Born in Launceston, Tasmania, he was educated at Launceston Business College before becoming an accountant and Secretary of the Tasmanian Farmers' Federation. In 1975, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal member for Wilmot, defeating long-serving Labor member Gil Duthie. When Wilmot was abolished in 1984, Burr successfully contested its successor, Lyons. He held the seat until his retirement in 1993.[1] References1. ^{{cite web|last=Carr |first=Adam |title=Australian Election Archive |work=Psephos, Adam Carr's Election Archive |url=http://psephos.adam-carr.net/countries/a/australia |year=2008 |accessdate=2008-11-09 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20081006075129/http://psephos.adam-carr.net/countries/a/australia |archivedate=6 October 2008 |df= }} {{start box}}{{s-par|au}}{{s-bef|before=Gil Duthie}}{{s-ttl | title=Member for Wilmot | years=1975–1984 }}{{s-non|reason=Division abolished}}|-{{s-non|reason=Division created}}{{s-ttl | title=Member for Lyons | years=1984–1993}}{{s-aft| after=Dick Adams}}{{end box}}{{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Burr, Max}}{{Australia-Liberal-politician-stub}} 8 : Liberal Party of Australia members of the Parliament of Australia|Members of the Australian House of Representatives for Wilmot|Members of the Australian House of Representatives for Lyons|Members of the Australian House of Representatives|1939 births|Living people|People from Launceston, Tasmania|20th-century Australian politicians |
