Mining began in earnest in 1853, and town was shipping $100,000 in gold per month by 1858. Leland Stanford ran a store in the town from 1853 to 1855. After hydraulic mining was banned, the town entered decline.[3] The town is now registered as California Historical Landmark #402.[4] References1. ^1 2 {{gnis|1659121}} 2. ^1 2 3 http://mapper.acme.com/?ll=39.043056,-120.741389&z=12&t=M&marker0=39.043056,-120.741389,Michigan%20Bluff%2C%20California 3. ^[https://books.google.com/books?id=AYMPR6xAj50C&pg=PA280&lpg#v=onepage&q&f=false Mildred Brooke Hoover, Douglas E.
