He attended Wilmington High School in Massachusetts[1][2] and played college football for the Boston College Eagles.[3] Esposito was a participant in the 1974 East–West Shrine Game. As part of the game, each player would visit the Shriners Hospitals for Children. While visiting, he noticed Nicole Worley-Urteaga, a 2-year-old patient with Holt-Oram syndrome. She appeared scared and was crying. Esposito took her hand to calm her down and they walked down the hallway together. A photographer from a local newspaper noticed the scene and snapped a photo of the two. The image became the inspiration for the official logo of the East-West Shrine Game and is displayed annually on the 50-yard line.[4][5] References1. ^{{cite news|last1=Cooke|first1=Rick|title=After all of these years, Mike Esposito is still a very big deal in Wilmington|url=http://homenewshere.com/wilmington_town_crier/sports/article_71e6e009-dffb-5004-bd4d-9690ffb3bdc1.html|accessdate=January 7, 2015|work=Wilmington Town Crier|date=November 29, 2009}} {{Atlanta Falcons 1975 draft navbox|state=collapsed}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Esposito, Mike}}{{runningback-1950s-stub}}2. ^{{cite news|last1=Pevear|first1=David|title=Ex-Wilmington High football star's invention is on the level|url=http://www.lowellsun.com/football/ci_26267918/ex-wilmington-high-football-stars-invention-is-level|accessdate=January 7, 2015|work=Lowell Sun|date=August 3, 2014}} 3. ^Mike Esposito Past Stats, Statistics, History, and Awards - databaseFootball.com {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20070208223801/http://www.databasefootball.com/players/playerpage.htm?ilkid=ESPOSMIK01 |date=2007-02-08 }} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://homenewshere.com/wilmington_town_crier/sports/article_71e6e009-dffb-5004-bd4d-9690ffb3bdc1.html|title=After all of these years, Mike Esposito is still a very big deal in Wilmington|first=RICK COOKESports|last=Correspondent|website=homenewshere.com}} 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.shrinegame.com/story-behind-the-logo |title=Story Behind the Logo |website=shrinegame.com |accessdate=January 4, 2018}} 7 : 1953 births|Living people|American football running backs|Atlanta Falcons players|Boston College Eagles football players|Sportspeople from Everett, Massachusetts|Players of American football from Massachusetts |
