It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Mikołajki Pomorskie.[1] It lies approximately {{convert|12|km|mi|0}} south-east of Sztum and {{convert|67|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} south-east of the regional capital Gdańsk.
