The station name refers to the nearby Kurume High School.[1][2] LinesThe station is served by the Kyudai Main Line and is located 4.9 km from the starting point of the line at {{STN|Kurume}}.[3] Only local trains on the line stop at the station. LayoutThe station consists of an island platform serving two tracks on a low embankment. The station building is an old wooden building in traditional Japanese style with a staffed ticket window. An underpass leads under the embankment and up to the island platform.[2][3] Management of the station has been outsourced to the JR Kyushu Tetsudou Eigyou Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of JR Kyushu specialising in station services. It staffs the ticket counter which is equipped with a POS machine but does not have a Midori no Madoguchi facility.[4][5] Adjacent stations{{service rail start}}{{j-route|route=Kyudai Main Line|col=Green|f=w}}{{j-rserv|previous={{STN|Kurume-Kōkōmae}}|next={{STN|Kurume-Daigakumae}}|service=Local}}{{end box}}HistoryJapanese Government Railways (JGR) opened a track from {{STN|Kurume}} to {{STN|Chikugo-Yoshii}} on 24 December 1928 during the first phase of the construction of the Kyudai Main Line. Minami-Kurume was opened on the same day as one of several intermediate stations on the track. With the privatization of Japanese National Railways (JNR), the successor of JGR, on 1 April 1987, JR Kyushu took over control of the station.[6][7]Passenger statisticsIn fiscal 2016, the station was used by an average of 424 passengers daily (boarding passengers only), and it ranked 259th among the busiest stations of JR Kyushu.[8] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.jrkyushu.co.jp/english/pdf/jrkyushu_routemap_en.pdf|title=JR Kyushu Route Map|publisher=JR Kyushu|accessdate=23 February 2018}} {{commons category}}{{Kyūdai Main Line}}2. ^1 {{Cite book|last=Kawashima|first=Ryōzō|script-title=ja: 図説: 日本の鉄道 四国・九州ライン 全線・全駅・全配線・第4巻 福岡エリア|year=2013 |publisher=Kodansha|isbn=9784062951630|trans-title=Japan Railways Illustrated.
