If a case is believed to be of a political nature, it is instead handed over to the State Security Department for investigation.[4] The protagonist in James Church's Inspector O novels, beginning with A Corpse in the Koryo, is a detective working in Unit 826, a Pyongyang subbranch of the Ministry.
