Alexander Secondary School is located in the village of Malton in the City of Mississauga, Ontario (part of the Peel District School Board). It is named after the former federal cabinet minister and Lieutenant Governor of Ontario Lincoln M. Alexander. Founded in 1968 as Westwood Secondary School, it was renamed in 2000 after it merged with Morning Star Secondary School. After the merger the school was expanded, creating the present day Geography/Historical Studies wing. This was done in an effort to accommodate more students. The previously vacant spot was where annual school carnivals were held. The exterior of the school is architecturally almost an exact copy of Erindale Secondary School, while their interiors remain different. This high school is located on Morning Star Drive near the intersection of Morning Star Dr. and Goreway Dr. Its location is prime because it is central to the small community of Malton making it a convenient walk for everyone. As a result, it is not serviced by school buses except for the disabled. Adjacent to the high school is Malton Community Centre with its facilities such as a library. Just south of Morning Star Drive along Goreway Drive are Westwood Square as well as other plazas that have many restaurants. The close proximity to such places has made them popular destinations for students during lunchtime and after school. AthleticsLincoln has various sports teams representing the school that play under the school's mascot of a lynx. During the 1990s their senior boys basketball team contended for both the Peel title and for the provincial playoffs (OFSAA). In 2007 they got a junior football team, followed by a senior team in 2008. Their football team competed for the Peel title in 2009, finishing as the runner-up. In addition, the school is attached to the Malton Community Pool (Operated by the City of Mississauga, formerly Westwood Pool) which provides many services to local residents. But in 2010 the pool was closed due to the construction of the new one across the street at the community centre. Lincoln also is home to an excellent ball hockey team which won the annual Blizzard Cup in 2012. The team is in its second year and was a finalist in OBHA in 2012. In the 2013 season Lincoln has won the annual Dragons Cup and placed second place for the second time in OBHA this year. Lincoln's Media GroupLincoln's Media Group contributes monthly to a section of The Malton Mirror.
