Mittersill represents the largest tungsten reserves in Austria having estimated reserves of 6.1 million tonnes of ore grading 0.5% pure tungsten.[1][2] The mine produces around 1,200 tonnes of tungsten/year.[2] HistoryExploration started in 1967. Production started as an open pit mine (eastern field) in 1976. Since 1986 only underground mining in the westfield is performed.
