The team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) as a member of the Big South Conference.[1] The school's first football team was fielded in 1993. Notable former playersTo date, six Monmouth Hawks alumni have played in the National Football League (NFL). Currently active is New York Jets tight end Neal Sterling. In addition to the NFL, Monmouth alumni have played professionally for the Canadian Football League (CFL), the Arena Football League (AFL), and the Alliance of American Football (AAF).
