Montclair Place is a 1.2 million-square-foot indoor shopping mall located in Montclair, California. At the time of its opening in 1968, it was the only indoor mall in San Bernardino County. {{citation needed|reason=The Inland Center was opened around the same time, also in the San Bernardino|date=May 2015}}

History

The mall opened on November 5, 1968, at a cost of $50 million, with 69 stores on a single level. Montclair Plaza was first anchored by J. C. Penney, The Broadway, and May Co.. The mall was developed by contractor Ernest W. Hahn. The mall was upgraded with a second level that opened on October 30, 1985. The first Nordstrom store in San Bernardino County opened at the Montclair Plaza on May 2, 1986. Currently, Montclair Plaza is anchored by JCPenney, Nordstrom, Macy's, and Barnes & Noble. The old Macy's site is currently vacant after the replacement of Robinsons May.[2] Competition from Victoria Gardens caused many of the stores to fail. To keep the mall's popularity, the mall was renovated during the summer of 2008. The newly renovated mall re-opened on November 9, 2008.[3] In addition, CIM Group, Inc. leases the mall. In November 2015, the management group renamed the mall "Montclair Place". They also announced renovations that could take place by the end of 2016. In 2015, Sears Holdings spun off 235 of its properties, including the Sears at Montclair Place, into Seritage Growth Properties.[4] On March 1, 2018, AMC Theatres announced that they will replace the old Macy's building with a new 55,000-square-foot dine-in movie theatre. This will be the city's first indoor theatre in nearly twenty years. In addition, multiple new stores are being added including Forever 21 and Spectrum. The Canyon, a 17,500-square-foot music and entertainment venue, will open in 2019. For children, Kids Empire, an 11,000-square-foot indoor playground, will open in December.
