Mozambique–Portugal relations are foreign relations between Mozambique and Portugal. They are both members of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries. Mozambique gained independence from Portugal in 1975 after the Mozambican War of Independence. Portugal has an embassy in Maputo and a Consulate-General in Beira. Mozambique has an embassy in Lisbon. Portuguese assistancePortuguese companies are the second largest private investor in Mozambique.[1] In July 2008, Mozambique and Portugal have signed an agreement to set up a fund to support investments worth USD124 million in the Mozambican energy sector.[2] In July 2008, Portugal cancelled Mozambique’s remaining debts to Portugal, estimated at US$393.4 million, accumulated from independence until 2005.[3] See also
