It is believed that, a legendary ancient sage, "Kanwa Mahamuni" during his explore throughout the nation visited and stayed in this place. During those days, he performed his daily routines of worship to god & other rituals on the bank of river "Madhu Vahini". This sacred place is well known as "Kanwa Gundi"(in Malayalam "kannikund"). Malla Durga Parameshwari temple is a well-known shrine near Kasaragod. Navaratri, KarthikaHunnime, Vasanthotsava and Kalabha are special days at the temple.
