Musi Banyuasin Regency is a regency of South Sumatra (or Sumatra Selatan) province, in Indonesia. It has a total area of {{convert|14477|km2|0|abbr=on}} and a population of 562,584 at the 2010 Census;[1] the latest official estimate (as at January 2014) is 602,615.

The capital of Musi Banyuasin Regency is Sekayu.

Geography

The regency, which covers fifteen percent of the area of South Sumatera Province, is located between 1.3° to 4° South latitude and from 103° to 104°40′ East longitude.

It is bordered to the north by Jambi Province, to the south by Muara Enim Regency, to the west by Musi Rawas Regency and North Musi Rawas Regency, and to the east by Banyuasin Regency.

Administrative districts

Musi Banyuasin Regency is subdivided into eleven districts (kecamatan), listed below with their areas (in Km²) and their populations at the 2010 Census:[2]

  • Babat Toman - 1,291.0 km² (52,640)
  • Batanghari Leko - 2,107.79 km² (21,156)
  • Plakat Tinggi - 247.0 km² (22,043)
  • Sungai Keruh - 629.0 km² (40,595)
  • Sekayu - 701.6 km² (78,637)
  • Lais - 755.53 km² (52,353)
  • Sungai Lilin - 374.26 km² (85,745)
  • Keluang - 400.57 km² (28,342)
  • Bayung Lencir - 4,847.0 km² (112,277)
  • Lalan - 1,031.0 km² (37,638)

Soil

Musi Banyuasin Regency consists of 4 kinds of soil:

  • Organosol: along the swamp and in the plain area
  • Clay Loam: see Organosol
  • Alluvial: along the Musi River
  • Pudzolik: in the hilly area

Climate

Musi Banyuasin Regency has tropic and wet season with variation of rainfall between 39.00 to 297.25 mm, for the year 2007 December has highest rank of rainfaals. Rain days ini 2007 tend to variation between 2.75 to 15.25 days with January has highest rank of rain days.
