At one time when the railway traveled through the community, it had several churches, service stations, a post office, and even a small hotel all of which have closed. Today it is home of the Nashwaak Music Fest, a traditional country music festival that has grown since its beginning in 2012 and now draws hundreds of people from across Canada and the United States. The community currently has a population of approximately 60 people.
