The name was changed from the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society in 2008 when the museum moved from Lorenzi Park in Las Vegas to the Springs Preserve campus.[2] The museum houses items from the development of Las Vegas as well as the natural history of the area.[3] The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 am to 5 pm, closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. AccreditationThe Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.[4] First locationThe 1982 museum was located in Lorenzi Park but was moved into a new building on the campus of the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas, where it opened in October 2011.[5] Current locationThe museum opened in October 2011, in a building completed in 2009 on the campus of the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas .[5] The building remained unused for two years as a result of state budget constraints from the 2008 economic slowdown. The new building has 11,000 square feet of permanent exhibit space. It houses exhibits on regional and natural history with a 13-foot articulated mammoth skeleton and an in-depth treatment of Las Vegas history. Admission for children 17 and younger is free.[6] References1. ^{{cite news|title=Museum on the move|url=http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2007/feb/13/museum-on-the-move/|accessdate=18 September 2011|newspaper=Las Vegas Sun|date=13 February 2007}} {{Coord| 36.172070|-115.190398|display=title}}{{LV museums}}{{U.S. state history museums}}2. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.leg.state.nv.us/74th/Minutes/Assembly/GA/Final/1149.pdf|title=MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS Seventy-Fourth Session|last=|first=|date=May 7, 2007|website=|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|access-date=}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://museums.travelnevada.com/destination/nevada-state-museum-las-vegas.nv |title= Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas |accessdate=2008-09-22 |work= |publisher= |date= }} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://aam-us.org/museumresources/accred/list.cfm?mode=alpha |title=List of Accredited Museums |author= |date= |work= |publisher= American Association of Museums |accessdate=2010-02-03}} 5. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://www.reviewjournal.com/events/event/NEVADA-STATE-MUSEUM-LAS-VEGAS/4435/2016-12-27/09-00-00|title=Las Vegas Review Journal Arts Section|last=|first=|date=December 27, 2016|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|work=Nevada Division of Museums and History|accessdate=18 September 2011}} 6. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.ktnv.com/news/local/131040648.html|title=Nevada's history museum to reopen at new site|first=|date=October 4, 2011|newspaper=KTNV|work=|via=|author=Ronia Shamona|accessdate=October 25, 2011|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20111006053945/http://www.ktnv.com/news/local/131040648.html|archivedate=October 6, 2011}} 6 : Museums in Las Vegas|History museums in Nevada|Natural history museums in Nevada|Institutions accredited by the American Alliance of Museums|Buildings and structures completed in 2009|2011 establishments in Nevada |
