词条 | New Alliance Party (Cook Islands) |
释义 |
The New Alliance Party was a political party in the Cook Islands. The party was led by Norman George, and was a continuation of his Alliance Party. The Alliance had merged with the Democratic Party to form the Democratic Alliance after the 1994 elections, but a struggle over the leadership between George and Terepai Maoate saw George split off again in 1997, accompanied by Jim Marurai.[1] The party won 4 seats at the 1999 election,[2] and formed a brief coalition with the Cook Islands Party which saw George serve as Deputy Prime Minister. A coalition realignment in November 1999 saw the NAP support Democratic party leader Terepai Maoate as Prime Minister, and the party remained in coalition despite George's subsequent sacking from Cabinet. The NAP re-merged with the Democratic Alliance in 2002.[3] References1. ^{{cite journal |title=Cook Islands in Review: Issues and Events, 1 July 1997 to 30 June 1998 |author=Wilkie Rasmussen |journal=The Contemporary Pacific |volume=11 |issue=1 |year=1999 |pages=209–210}} {{Cook Islands political parties}}2. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.cookislands.de/index.php?page=703756965&f=1&i=703756965 |title=History of the Cook Islands |accessdate=2009-03-27}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.rnzi.com/pages/news.php?op=read&id=475 |title=Cook Islands prime minister’s party merges with New Alliance |publisher=Radio New Zealand International |date=2002-05-10 |accessdate=2009-03-27}} 2 : Political parties established in 1997|Defunct political parties in the Cook Islands |
