The School was formed in 2005 with the merger of two preparatory schools, Ascham House School and Newlands Preparatory School. The school has a roll of approximately 400 students[1] and 75 staff and is located on three sites in the Gosforth area of the city. The Junior School is located in two buildings about 100 yards apart on either side of West Avenue, and caters for boys in Nursery and Years 1 to 6. The Senior School is located on multiple sites on The Grove and Moor Road and is half-a-mile east of the junior school. Students transfer to the Senior School when they enter Year 7. The main building of the Senior school is housed in the large, Victorian-era former home of local magnate John Henry Reah, built in the late 1890s. The School has undergone significant development since its formation in 2005 including the appointment of Mr Chris Hutchinson as Headmaster from Wellington College in 2007, and the opening of a major new extension to the senior school site in 2008. The Sixth Form accepted its first students in September 2009 and a further extension to the Senior School site was built to accommodate these students. In April 2012 Mr David Tickner was appointed as Headmaster. In 2017, the school acquired additional premises directly opposite the Senior School to house a purpose-designed Sixth Form Centre. AdmissionsWhilst the School will accept admissions into all year groups and in-year admissions, where places are available, its main entry points into the Junior School are Nursery, Reception and Year 3. For the Senior School, the key entry points are Year 7, Year 9 and Sixth Form. The School hosts assessment days in January of each year from boys seeking entry into Years 3, 7, 9 and 12. Newcastle School for Boys accepts [https://newcastleschool.co.uk/admissions/how-to-apply/application-form/ online applications] through its website. Scholarships and BursariesNewcastle School for Boys may offer its pupils both a scholarship and a bursary scheme. It is possible for a pupil to hold both a scholarship and a bursary, although they are awarded as two separate entities. InspectionsThe School was last inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in 2017. All standards were met.[2] 1. ^ISI Report, November 2007 2. ^{{cite web |last1=Georghiou |first1=Roberta |title=REGULATORY COMPLIANCE INSPECTION REPORT NEWCASTLE SCHOOL FOR BOYS 27 - 28 SEPTEMBER 2017 |url=https://newcastleschool.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Newcastle-RCI-Report-for-issuing.pdf |website=newcastleschool.co.uk |publisher=ISI |accessdate=3 August 2018}} External links
