{{Politics of Namibia}}Namibia is a one party dominant state with the South-West Africa People's Organisation in power. Opposition parties are allowed, but are widely considered to have no real chance of gaining power. In Namibian politics, ethnicity plays a significant role in party affiliation and voting behaviour. Some parties are dominated by single ethnic groups; SWAPO itself, its government, and administration, is pre-dominantly Ovambo.[1]

Parties with parliamentary seats

Parties with seats in the National Assembly of Namibia after the 2014 elections:[2]

  • SWAPO Party (77)
  • Democratic Turnhalle Alliance, in 2017 renamed Popular Democratic Movement (PDM, 5)
  • Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP, 3)
  • All People's Party (APP, 2)
  • United Democratic Front (UDF, 2)
  • National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO, 2)
  • Workers Revolutionary Party (WRP, 2)
  • Republican Party (RP, 1)
  • South West African National Union (SWANU, 1)
  • United People's Movement (UPM, 1)

Unrepresented parties

The following parties contested the 2014 parliamentary elections but did not gain a seat, in the order of votes obtained:[2]

  • Congress of Democrats (CoD)
  • Namibian Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF)[3]
  • Monitor Action Group (MAG)
  • Christian Democratic Voice (CDV)[4]
  • National Democratic Party (NDP)
  • Democratic Party of Namibia (DPN)

The following parties were founded after the 2014 parliamentary elections:

  • Landless People's Movement (LPM, founded 2018)[5]

Parties of local relevance

The following parties did not contest the 2014 presidential election but took part in the 2015 local authority elections, and gained a seat:[6]

  • Civic Association of Henties Bay, 1 seat in Henties Bay
  • Karibib Residents Association, 1 seat in Karibib
  • Swakopmund Residents Association, 1 seat in Swakopmund
  • Rundu Concerned Citizens Association, 1 seat in Rundu
