The project was conceived on 1 July 2001 and approved on 8 June 2005, and construction began on 23rd Sept, 2006. The project involves construction of a {{convert|57|m||adj=pre|-high|abbr=on}} concrete dam with five spillway blocks of {{convert|13|m|abbr=on}} each having ogee profile. The Nimoo Bazgo power project envisages utilizing a rated net head of {{convert|34|m|abbr=on}} to generate {{convert|239.30|GWh|abbr=off}}{{clarify|date=August 2014}} in a 90% dependable year. The project has three surface power units of {{convert|15|MW|abbr=on}} each with a total installed capacity of {{convert|15|MW}}. Every unit has a {{convert|3.3|m|abbr=on}} diameter, each {{convert|63|m|ft|abbr=on|adj=mid|-long}} penstocks. Each operating unit will be designed for a discharge of {{convert|48.7|m3/s|abbr=on}} and also have transformer yard and switch yard. The project will be connected to the northern grid through a 220 kV transmission line from Leh to Srinagar (the line is scheduled for commissioning with project commissioning). The dam diverts water from the river by a {{convert|372|m|abbr=on}} long diversion channel and involves a flooding of only {{convert|3.42|km2|abbr=on}}. Thus the power density is {{convert|{{#expr:45/3.42 round 2}}|MW/km2|W/m2 MW/sqmi}}. The project is being developed by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Ltd., while Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) has executed the Electro-Mechanical works. All the three units of the project have been successfully commissioned.
