Ningiukulu (Ningeokuluk) Teevee (born May 27, 1963 in Cape Dorset)[1] is a Canadian Inuit writer and artist. She is the daughter of Joanasie (deceased) and Kanajuk Salomonie, and her father-in-law is the graphic artist Jamasie Teevee.[2] Her work is featured in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of Ontario, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Canadian Museum of Civilization.[3] Teevee uses ink and coloured pencils as her primary mediums: constructing imagery that is built from her knowledge of Inuit folklore, combined with the humorous aspects of contemporary life in Nunavut[4]. The wealth of these Inuit stories depict, in her flattened 2D style (an abstraction of representation, referencing patterns found in nature[5]), relationships between the land and animals that are used for sustenance, and the familial histories that define a wealth of cultural storytelling[6]. Her first children's book, Alego, is an authentic introduction to Inuit Tradition and lifestyle - a nominee for the 2009 Governor General's Award for children's literature illustration.[7] Alego is an autobiographical tale (written and illustrated by Teevee) about adventure and discovery along the seashore; for the first time, a young girl goes clam-digging with her grandmother[8]. In 2006, her first solo exhibition was held at the Feheley Fine Arts Gallery in Toronto, titled "Ningeokuluk Teevee."[2] In 2009 she had her second solo exhibition at Feely Fine Arts Gallery in Toronto, titled "Drawings by Ningeokuluk Teevee," which included a public presentation of Alego.[2] In 2017, the Winnipeg Art Gallery opened Ningiukulu Teevee: Kinngait Stories at the Embassy of Canada in Washington, DC.[9] References1. ^Dorset Fine Arts {{Portal |Children's literature}}{{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Teevee, Ningeokuluk}}{{Canada-writer-stub}}2. ^1 2 {{Cite book|url=https://www.worldcat.org/oclc/778841636|title=Women in charge : artiste Inuit contemporanee = Inuit contemporary women artists = artistes Iunuit contemporaines|last=Stefania.|first=Tiberini, Elvira|year=2011|publisher=Officina libraria|others=Museo preistorico-etnografico Luigi Pigorini.|isbn=9788889854655|location=Milano|oclc=778841636}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://canadahouse.com/artist.asp?aid=442|title=Ningiukulu Teevee|website= Canada house gallery|access-date=23 March 2019}} 4. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.madronagallery.com/artists/ningeokuluk-teevee|title=Ningiukulu Teevee|website=Madrona Gallery|language=en-US|access-date=2019-03-30}} 5. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.wag.ca/about/press/media-releases/read,release/556/wag-to-open-inuit-art-exhibition-at-embassy-of-canada-in-washington-dc|title=WAG to Open Inuit Art Exhibition at Embassy of Canada in Washington, DC {{!}} Media Releases {{!}} Winnipeg Art Gallery|website=www.wag.ca|access-date=2019-03-30}} 6. ^{{Cite web|url=https://inuit.com/collections/beyond-the-surface-the-drawings-by-ningeokuluk-teevee|title=Beyond the Surface: Drawings by Ningiukulu Teevee|website=Inuit Gallery of Vancouver Ltd.|access-date=2019-03-30}} 7. ^{{cite news|last1=Adams|first1=James|title=A new generation of Arctic artists push the boundaries of Northern art|url=https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/the-north/a-new-generation-of-arctic-artists-push-the-boundaries-of-northern-art/article16387953/|accessdate=29 February 2016|work=the Globe and Mail|publisher=the Globe and Mail|date=17 January 2014}} 8. ^{{Cite web|url=https://houseofanansi.com/products/alego|title=Alego|website=House of Anansi Press|language=en|access-date=2019-03-30}} 9. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.wag.ca/about/press/media-releases/read,release/556/wag-to-open-inuit-art-exhibition-at-embassy-of-canada-in-washington-dc|title=WAG to Open Inuit Art Exhibition at Embassy of Canada in Washington D.C.|year=2017|website= Winnipeg Art Gallery|access-date= 23 March 2019}} 16 : 1963 births|Canadian children's writers|Canadian women writers|Canadian illustrators|Canadian women artists|Writers from Nunavut|Artists from Nunavut|Inuit writers|Inuit illustrators|Living people|Canadian Inuit women|People from Qikiqtaaluk Region|Writers who illustrated their own writing|Canadian women children's writers|Inuit from the Northwest Territories|Inuit from Nunavut |
