It is located in the center of the republic. The area of the district is {{convert|1315.3|km2|sp=us}}.[3] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Novosheshminsk.[4] Population: {{ru-census2010|14,179|;}} 15,860 (2002 Census);[5] {{su-census1989|14,663|.}} The population of Novosheshminsk accounts for 32.2% of the district's total population.
