The community is part of the Ocala Metropolitan Statistical Area. HistoryA post office was established at Ocklawaha in 1884.[1] The area has its own postal district (32179)[2] and post office.[3] The community took its name from the nearby Ocklawaha River.[4] In 1935, Ocklawaha was the scene of a shootout between federal agents and Ma Barker and her gang. The agents fired nearly 2,000 bullets into the house and the fight ended in the death of all gang members present. Each year, the Ocklawaha Chamber of Commerce puts on a reenactment of the event.[5] GeographyOcklawaha is located at {{coord|29.0425|-81.9294|type:city_region:US|format=dms|display=inline,title}} (29.0425, -81.9294).[6] The Ocklawaha River runs northward to the west, following the boundary of the Ocala National Forest.[7] See also{{portal-inline|Florida]]References1. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.postalhistory.com/postoffices.asp?task=display&state=FL&county=Marion | title=Marion County | publisher=Jim Forte Postal History | accessdate=30 May 2015}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=https://m.usps.com/m/POLocatorDetailsAction!input.action?locationTypeQ=po&address=&radius=20&locationType=po&locationID=1375876&locationName=OCKLAWAHA&address2=&address1=13470+E+HIGHWAY+25&city=OCKLAWAHA&state=FL&zip5=32179&zip4=5201&tollFree=800-ASK-USPS%25AE%25A0(800-275-8777)&fax=&fax=&tAddress1Ams=&tCityAms=&tStateAms=Select&latitude=29.042646&longitude=-81.9300077sWithin=20distance=7.7|title=Detail|website=M.usps.com|accessdate=26 July 2018}} 3. ^{{cite news | url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=C7hPAAAAIBAJ&sjid=CQcEAAAAIBAJ&pg=2347%2C3456475 | title=Indian heritage runs deep throughout Central Florida | work=Ocala Star-Banner | date=Feb 21, 1988 | accessdate=6 June 2015 | author=Frisaro, Freida Ratliff | pages=63}} 4. ^{{cite news | url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=tK5PAAAAIBAJ&sjid=mwYEAAAAIBAJ&pg=6903%2C7420165 | title=County's history reflected in its names | work=Ocala Star-Banner | date=May 14, 1987 | accessdate=30 May 2015 | author=Pyle, Nancy | pages=8A}} 5. ^{{cite web|title=Ma and Fred Barker killed during 1935 shootout with FBI in Ocklawaha|url=http://www.ocala.com/article/20030101/OCALACOMHISTORY/101010079|publisher=Ocala Star Banner|accessdate=13 January 2015}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geo/www/gazetteer/gazette.html|publisher=United States Census Bureau|accessdate=2011-04-23|date=2011-02-12|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}} 7. ^{{cite map|publisher=OpenStreetMap |access-date=20 May 2015 |url=https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/2193535 |title=Relation: Ocklawaha River (2193535)}} External links{{commons category-inline|Ocklawaha, Florida}}{{Marion County, Florida}}{{MarionCountyFL-geo-stub}} 2 : Unincorporated communities in Marion County, Florida|Unincorporated communities in Florida |
