释义 | {{italic title}}{{Use dmy dates|date=June 2014}} The first edition of O MIRANTE was released on November 16, 1987, at Chamusca. A monthly newspaper of 16 pages, with a circulation of two thousand copies, the result of the dream of Joaquim António Emídio, the architect and worker of a project that until now broke with what had been, for many years, the regional press. The director's personal style, which until now has led the project, is well-established in the editorial of the first issue. "Those who know us know that we are persistent. That we do not turn our back on what has become difficult for us. That we do not praise mediocrity." And to finish: "From now on we will do and say like the poet:" Walker there is no way / make way when walking". All the way from O MIRANTE was made by walking. There were no references. There were no models. The regional press was totally amateur. Made by curious, as a mere pastime. As it is still the case today in most cases. Four years later, in April 1991, the monthly newspaper goes to twice a month. In September 1995 O Mirante moves to Santarém and starts being released weekly. Being Portugal a centralist country O MIRANTE could only be successful if it left Chamusca. Initially, it was thought to move the editorial office to Torres Novas or Almeirim. It was a way of breaking with the centralism of the district capital, but it was soon realized that such solution was not viable. Politicians spoke every day of decentralization but did not stir a straw to put it into practice and the newspaper could not row alone against the tide. Santarem was the great test of fire. The door to the path traced so far. O MIRANTE publishing company bought the Jornal do Vale do Tejo on April 27, 2000, to cover the municipalities of Salvaterra de Magos, Benavente and Coruche. Later the area of action of the newspaper extends to the counties of Azambuja and Vila Franca de Xira. In September of this year the newspaper merges with O MIRANTE, giving origin to the Vale do Tejo edition. This merge gives the newspaper another visibility and makes the print run up to 35,000 copies. O MIRANTE affirms itself as the largest Portuguese regional newspaper. In recent years O MIRANTE has bought its own headquarters, it is a pioneer on the net where it provides all its information, and maintains a team of about 30 professionals who publish on paper and online the news of the 23 municipalities in its area of coverage. {{DEFAULTSORT:Mirante, O}} 4 : 1987 establishments in Portugal|Publications established in 1987|Weekly newspapers published in Portugal|Portuguese-language newspapers |
