Oscar Gelbfuhs (November 9, 1852 in Šternberk, Moravia – September 27, 1877 in Cieszyn, Austrian Silesia) was a Moravian-Austrian chess master. He took 11th in the Vienna 1873 chess tournament (Wilhelm Steinitz and Joseph Henry Blackburne won).[1] Gelbfuhs invented and proposed an auxiliary scoring method for tie breaking (Sonnenborn–Berger) there.[2] A simpler version the "Neustadtl Score" later became widely used.[3] References1. ^Vienna {{DEFAULTSORT:Gelbfuhs, Oscar}}{{CzechRepublic-chess-bio-stub}}{{Austria-chess-bio-stub}}2. ^https://web.archive.org/web/20091028083510/http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lab/7378/history.txt 3. ^Chess Games Database 6 : 1852 births|1877 deaths|People from Šternberk|Czech chess players|Austrian chess players|Austrian people of Czech descent |
