The population was 63 at the 2000 census. Lockhart Township was organized in 1882, and named for a landowner.[3] GeographyAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.2 square miles (93.9 km²), all of it land. DemographicsAs of the census[1] of 2000, there were 63 people, 27 households, and 18 families residing in the township. The population density was 1.7 people per square mile (0.7/km²). There were 39 housing units at an average density of 1.1/sq mi (0.4/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 100.00% White. There were 27 households out of which 25.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.3% were married couples living together, 3.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 3.00. In the township the population was spread out with 20.6% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 31.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females, there were 110.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 150.0 males. The median income for a household in the township was $36,250, and the median income for a family was $40,625. Males had a median income of $26,250 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the township was $19,424. There were 22.2% of families and 25.4% of the population living below the poverty line, including 33.3% of under eighteens and none of those over 64.
