This species occurs in streams and reaches a length of {{convert|6.6|cm|in}} SL.[3][4] It is found in the Büyük Menderes River and other streams in western Anatolia, Turkey, and the Evergetoulas Stream on the island of Lesbos, Greece.[1] It can be found in the upper reaches of streams with clear, cold, flowing water where it hides among the stones of the stream bed. The stomach contents of a single female female were found to consist of aquatic insect larvae.[3] Water abstraction and the increased droughts caused by climate change are the main threats.[1] References1. ^1 2 {{cite journal | author1 = Freyhof, J. | author2 = Kottelat, M. | year = 2008 | title = Oxynoemacheilus theophilii | journal = The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species | volume = 2008 | page = e.T135647A4170011 | doi = 10.2305/IUCN.UK.2008.RLTS.T135647A4170011.en}} Downloaded on 04 January 2018. {{Taxonbar|from=Q6409157}}{{Cypriniformes-stub}}2. ^Kottelat, M.
