Tirone (born February 8, 1951 in Newburyport, Massachusetts) is an American politician who was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 2001–2003.[1] He was defeated in the 2002 Democratic primary by Michael A. Costello.[2] Tirone was involved in exonerating the remaining yet-unnamed five victims of the Salem witch trials, by helping pass an act on October 31, 2001. His wife is a descendant of Sarah Wildes, one of the condemned witches who was hanged in 1692. He took the opportunity to urge caution on a similar reaction to the then-recent September 11 attacks, stating, "Sometimes when things like this happen we need to take a breath, and look at it. We just can't paint blame with a wide brush."[3] References1. ^{{cite book |author= |vauthors= |title=2001–2002 Public Officers of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts |year= |publisher= |quote= |url=https://archive.org/stream/publicofficersof20012002bost#page/226/mode/2up |isbn= }} {{DEFAULTSORT:Tirone, Paul}}{{Massachusetts-MARepresentative-stub}}2. ^{{cite book |author= |vauthors= |title=Massachusetts Election Statistics 2002 |year= |publisher= |quote= | url=https://archive.org/stream/massachusettsele2002mass#page/270/mode/2up |isbn= }} 3. ^{{cite news |author= |title=Massachusetts Clears 5 From Salem Witch Trials |url=https://www.nytimes.com/2001/11/02/us/massachusetts-clears-5-from-salem-witch-trials.html |newspaper=New York Times |location=New York, New York |date=November 2, 2001 |access-date=August 13, 2015 }} 8 : 1951 births|Northern Michigan University alumni|Northeastern University alumni|Members of the Massachusetts House of Representatives|People from Amesbury, Massachusetts|Massachusetts Democrats|Living people|Politicians from Newburyport, Massachusetts |
